Garmin Releases Pilot Training App for iPad 2

Garmin International, known for its top-tier navigation devices has just released a new GTN 750 pilot training app for the iPad 2. The app replicates the GTN 750 system interface to provide pilots with a safe, on-the-ground simulation to learn the basics of the  GPS system, also produced by Garmin.

With a touch and drag interface, users can explore most of the functions of the GTN 750, including map panning, entering waypoints into the flight plan, loading airways, graphically editing flight plans, radio tuning, plus more.

The app provides high resolution North and Central America terrain maps, worldwide NavData, simulated traffic targets, and simulated XM wether data to allow pilots to experience and learn the features offered by the GTN 750.

“The iPad’s touchscreen interface lends itself well to realistically simulating the full GTN experience,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin VP of Aviation Sales and Marketing. “By using this tool, pilots can interact with the trainer like they would with the device in the cockpit, allowing them to become more familiar and comfortable with a GTN before ever going up in the air.”

Garmin’s GTN 750 is no run of the mill GPS unit. This bad boy retails for about $14,000 and works with product options like TAWS-B audible alerts, transponder control, and remote audio processor control. With demo settings to simulate flight scenarios with varied altitude, speed, and location, it’s perfect for all GTN-equipped aircraft owners, renter pilots, flight instructors, students, and line pilots.

The GTN Trainer app is currently available for download for the iPad 2 from the App Store, at the price of $24.99.
