New Report from Millenial Media – iPhone Still on Top, Kindle Fire… on Fire

This week Millennial Media, the leading independent mobile advertising and data company, released its latest report, providing some interesting insight into the growth of the mobile industry and its leading players in the month of November.

In the Device & Manufacturing section of the report, Millennial Media found that during November Apple continued to be the leading device manufacturer on the mobile platform, taking a 26% slice of the Top 15 Manufacturers impression share. Somewhat unsurprisingly the iPhone remained the top individual phone, representing 14% of the Top 20 Mobile Phone impression share.

The popularity of the Samsung Galaxy Tab ensured that Samsung reclaimed its position as second ranked manufacturer, representing 17% of the Top 15 Manufacturers impression share, while third place went to HTC, which had four phones feature on to the Top 20 Mobile Phones list in November.

In the Carrier Mix chart ranked by impressions, what was particularly interesting was the in November, Wi-Fi grew 11% month-over-month and accounted for a huge 39% of the Carrier Mix. Of these impressions, 62% came from smartphones, and 38% came from connected devices including tablets, gaming devices, and eReaders.
The growth of iOS is another noteworthy fact of the Millennial Media report, as in the Connected Device & Smartphone OS, IOS grew 7% month-over-month and maintained its position as the second largest Connected Device & Smartphone OS with 30% of the impression share. Maintaining its consistent lead for the past year on the Connected Device & Smartphone OS Mix was Android, which took a 50% share of the impressions chart.

The Kindle Fire was also in the spotlight in the Millennial Media report, as it has been since its release in mid-November. Since its release, the Kindle Fire has been an impact on the connected device market, as the Millennial Media platform proves. According to the report, impressions from the Kindle Fire have grown at an average daily rate of 19% since it was launched just several weeks ago. By growing at a monthly run rate of hundreds of millions of impressions, the Kindle Fire’s impression growth on the Millennial Media platform has slightly outpaced that of the iPad when it was launched in early 2010.
