Unit9 brings to the iPad a game where you have to, and I quote, “stop Earth from getting smashed by asteroids using gravity wells.” “W.A.R.P.,” available in the app store is a simple but fun little time waster that lives up to that premise.

Just like the developer’s description, asteroids are hurtling towards earth at varying speeds and angles. You must touch the screen to create “gravity wells” which change the course of the asteroids, making them miss the earth altogether or sometimes even crash into one another. The goal is to keep the earth safe for as many years as possible while your global population builds (basically two scores to keep track of).

The graphics are clean, the controls are simple but effective, and the challenge is constantly growing. The physics that take over when you change an asteroids course work really well to make you feel like you can always make one go where you want, without it being too easy. It’s a fun game, and the Open Feint achievements and leaderboards give the game an extra dose of addictiveness.

“W.A.R.P.” is definitely worth a try. It’s got that simple, classic arcade game feel, but updated for a touch screen generation. At $0.99, it’s a steal. You can get it on the AppStore.
