TwitterSteam HD Floats Casually Into The App Store – iPad App Review

Twitter apps abound in the App Store. Most are various designs of the same thing. Every once in a while, a developer tries something new, creates a unique way to experience the mini-statement social networking site. WhereMark has done just that with TwitterStream HD.
Not a typical Twitter app, TwitteStream HD focuses on a relaxing environment, intended for viewing more than participating in the fast-paced culture of tweeting. The tweets, resting atop a slow-moving stream, float by on leaves that can be interacted with. The relaxing sound of tropical birds can be heard in the distance.
When the clear water is touched, the ripples it creates will affect the tweet leaves. Each tweet can be moved about or flicked off screen. If you want to take a closer look at a tweet, tap on the leaf and a window will pop up. Links to websites and photos can be accessed from this window as well.
In order to log into your Twitter account, just tap the “i” at the top-right side of the screen. From here, users can also enable the search feature and turn on or off the public timeline, trending tweets and local tweets. If you want to send a tweet from the app, tap the “t” at the lower-right side of the screen.
This app does not come with all of the bells and whistles that some other Twitter apps do. There is no in-app picture upload, no Activity, Mention or List access, and tweets recycle after the top 20 float by. But, that is not the point of TwitterStream HD. Users are supposed to be taking it easy, watching the tweets float by, experiencing things from a distance.
What I liked: The beautifully designed graphics and the ability to interact with tweets. It is a new way to experience Twitter
What I didn’t like: I’d like to be able to adjust my timeline. Being restricted to only the past 20 tweets leaves you looking for more. It would be great if users could choose how far back their timeline goes- 20, 50, 100.
To buy or not to buy: If you are looking for a unique and creative Twitter experience, instead of the rush of social network chaos, this app is just what you need. At only $0.99, there is no reason not to add this app to your “social apps” folder.
