Sweethearts Unite in Jump Birdy Jump – iPad Game Review

Jump Birdy Jump is a cute game starring the most adorable bird you have ever seen (and you can swear you see his eyes sparkle as he looks at you and blinks). The passion and effort put into this game are evident and confirmed by the game description that says “Jump Birdy Jump is a fun little game hand-crafted by a guy in his garage after 19 weeks of eating nothing but ramen.”
One of the things that makes this game unique is the goal of uniting your bird with his better half. It is sweet and romantic and far more interesting than the usual ‘cross the finish line’ kinds of end-goals.

The interface is easy to work with. Your bird perches on a rope that behaves like a slingshot as you fling him through the air toward the next rope and eventually to the side of his sweetheart. Along the way you can collect as many stars as possible to improve your score.
The game currently features 60 unique levels that will keep you busy for quite some time even though the developer assures us that he is actively developing more. Because each level gets progressively more difficult, getting through these first 60 could take you quite some time so you won’t be lacking for a challenge anytime soon.

What I liked: On-screen tips help you get used to the game, giving you guidance such as “Walls are Dangerous” and “Avoid the Obstacles”. This is a nice way to teach you the game without making you work through a lengthy tutorial.

What I didn’t like: The graphics are so cute I was kind of hoping for sound effects that match, but in the end they are rather bland. The background music is aggravating and I was grateful that I could turn this off entirely in the game options.

To buy or not to buy: Games this good are rarely “cheep”, grab if before the developer realizes what a gem he has here and raises the price!
