Lock and Load your Jetpack in Rocket Riot – iPad Game Review

Rocket Riot
It’s been a while since I played a side-view shooter and I must say that I’ve missed them. In Rocket Riot you play a bazooka-carrying soldier with a jet-pack that is looking to defeat the dreaded pirate Blockbeard.
As you work through the game, playing each of 48 campaigns, you will have to conquer three different levels: deathmatch in which you destroy all of your enemies, destroy the object where you need to find and obliterate the shiny blocks and rugby riot which has you scoring by throwing the ball through the other team’s goal.
The graphics are a fun throwback to the classic 8-bit images from video games past and that really appeals to me. Even better than that, the soundtrack is this delightful synth pop style Devo-reminiscent awesomeness.
Learning to use the controls does take a little bit of time, but fortunately the first level starts with a tutorial that walks you through how to move and shoot and get into your pirate-conquering groove.
Adding complexity and interest to this game are the various powerups that let you really take your hero to the next level. Whether you are adding explosive new power, shooting rockets or defying physics and shooting through walls, there is no end to the fun twists and possibilities.
