Lenovo takes the Sandy Bridge for its IdeaPad notebooks

So let's just jump in feet first and get to the details. There's no point pussy-footing around. Lenovo certainly didn't when it sent out a press release detailing a whopping 16 laptops (and two desktop PCs thrown in for good measure as well).
Starting with the top end, we've got three new models in the Lenovo IdeaPad Y range - the Y570d, Y570 and Y470 - which are described as "High Performance Mobile Entertainment" machines.
The Y470 is a 14-inch machine, and the other two are both 15.6-inch variations. The d in Y570d stands for, you guessed it, 3D, and it comes with the necessary specs.
Other than that, these are similarly spec'd machines with a MacBook Air rivalling 10-second boot time, the new Intel Core i7 CPUs, Nvidia's GeForce 555M 1GB switchable graphics, up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM and up to 1TB HDDs.
They've all got Blu-ray on board, JBL-designed speakers, a six-in-one card reader, optional TV-out, HDMI, RJ45, three USB 2.0 ports, and a 2-megapixel webcam.
Next up is the "Fashionable Multimedia Laptops" otherwise known as the IdeaPad Z570, Z470 and Z370.
Ranging from 13.3-inches to 15.6-inches, these machines also have the second-generation Intel chips and Nvidia GeForce 410M graphics for the Z370 and NVIDIA GeForce 525M 2GB graphics for the Z470 and Z570.
For the work-happy amongst you, there is the IdeaPad V570, V470 and V370 machines, all with the new Intel chips (up to i7). These notebooks have up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, up to 1TB HDD, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, a Blu-ray drive, HD graphics support, HDMI out and stereo speakers.
The V470 and V570 have Nvidia GeForce 525M GPUs on board, while the V370 packs the Nvidia GeForce 315M GPU.
Moving onto the budget range, Lenovo has announced five new G series machines; G770, G570, G470, G575, G475.
There are new 17-, 15- and 14-inch options for this line-up and they have RapidBoot technology, "which delivers faster start-up and shutdown and optimised multimedia".
Finally, the IdeaPad S100 (10.1-inch) and S205 (11.6-inch) are "stylish internet companions" which boast ultra-slim designs, long battery lives and optional integrated 3G connectivity.
Pricing and Availability
The new IdeaPad S Series laptops will be available beginning in March 2011 starting at $329.99.
The new IdeaPad Y Series laptops will be available beginning in May 2011 starting at $899.99.
The new Lenovo B Series laptops will be available beginning in April 2011 starting at $499.99.
The new Lenovo V Series laptops will be available beginning in April 2011 starting at $599.99.
There's no UK price news as of yet, but as always - we'll keep you posted.
