AMD Fusion chips bring all-day battery life and enhanced graphics

AMD Fusion chips bring all-day battery life and enhanced graphics. Laptops, Netbooks, Chipsets, AMD, AMD Fusion, CES2011, 0

Pocket-lint recently brought you news of the new Intel Sandy Bridge next-gen Core i processors, and now, hot on its tail,  AMD is showcasing its new Fusion APU (Accelerated Processing Units) at CES in Las Vegas.

The new class of combined CPU/GPU processor is very welcome and should bring with it 1080p HD video processing, a massive improvement in GPU performance with its DirectX11 discrete-level graphics engine and a very impressive battery life - possibly around 10 hours.

The AMD chips come in low- and high-power platforms: the E-series and C-series taking care of the bottom rung; whilst the A-series (Llano) will take care of "performance and mainstream notebooks and mainstream desktops".

Rick Bergman, senior vice president and general manager, AMD Products Group, said: "In one major step, we enable users to experience HD everywhere as well as personal supercomputing capabilities in notebooks that can deliver all-day battery life. It's a new category, a new approach, and opens up exciting new experiences for consumers".

With both Intel and AMD hitting the processor market hard with what looks to be some very competitive tech, it'll be interesting to keep an eye on what strain, if any, that places on their joint MeeGo venture.
Pocket-lint is over in Vegas in full force, so be sure to check our CES area to keep up with all of the trade show news as and when it breaks.
