Meet Bill The Fish And His Aquatic Friends – iPad App Review

Bill the Fish is a cute little interactive children’s book for the iPad that is beautifully illustrated and fun to read. Little ones will get a kick out of the funny sounds and dressed up fishes. Have a swim around the block with Bill the Fish.

The story is of a lovable fish that is not very big and not very tall. He has no stripes and no spots and he eats breakfast for dinner. He is an individual, and is happy with who he is. As readers turn the pages of the story of Bill, they discover beautiful illustrations that are colorful and bright.

Each page has a bit of interactivity to it, but this book is more about the visual aspect and less about making things move around on the page. There are plenty of hidden things to discover, but the joy is in the artwork.

There are features like a canvas that can be painted on and a fish with four different hats that readers can move around. There is even a prawn that can change beards. When you select one, he will say something like, “Marvelous choice” or “Oh, how very nice.”

This is a sweet book that would be perfect for children who have not yet learned to read, or are new readers. The words are sparse, but they speak a great lesson on how to love yourself for being different.

What I liked: I can’t get over how perfectly matched the artwork is for this book. The colors are so vibrant and each page looks like a hand-painted canvas.

What I didn’t like: You can’t flip back through the pages. In order to go to a previous page, readers must first select the menu feature and then select the page they wish to return to.

To buy or not to buy: It is a great book at a reasonable price. The story is sweet and innocent and can easily become a new reader’s favorite book.
