Answer the Tough Questions for Your Child in Jeffy’s World HD – iPad App Review

Jeffy's World HD
How did parents survive in the days before Google? Kids are curious little beasts and they love to ask questions, the likes of which can be handled by Jeffy’s World HD. This is very good news for all you fellow parents who have had to look up the answers to questions like: Why do we have day and night? Why is the winter cold and summer warm? Why is the moon sometimes shaped like a banana?

Play while you learn, guiding Jeffy around the earth as you “discover how time, seasons and the movement of the world are interrelated.”
Children (and adults, quite frankly) are very visual and it helps a lot to see things animated and on the screen in front of you. Watch as the earth goes from day to night as you slide the sun across the sky and notice that as you change from one season the next the sun is closer or further away –exactly why the temperature rises and falls!
The interface for this app is fun and playful. When I spun the earth backwards I was alerted that not only was I going the wrong way but I would in fact be going backwards in time (as much as that would be nice!).
What I liked: I’ve reviewed and played with a lot of apps and this one is truly unique with an opportunity to learn things that are actually more than just simple trivia.
What I didn’t like: The app loads with a bit of a quick tutorial overview that you need to step through –I wish that the tutorial let you ‘test drive’ the features because you then have to remember later what you were told to do.
To buy or not to buy: If you have an inquisitive little person that isn’t satisfied by ‘because I said so’ as an answer to their questions, this is an app they will really enjoy.
