Enterprise solutions company Good Technology recently released a report showing that the iPhone 4S took the top spot in the fourth quarter of 2011 for enterprise activation, followed by the iPhone 4 and the iPad 2, which took third in the ranking. While Android-based devices made their appearance in the top-ten on a consistent basis, Good’s report reflects the sentiment that enterprise users
continue to prefer Apple.
According to
the report, the company’s clients “show a clear preference for Apple products despite Android’s gains in the general consumer market share overall. The iPad dominates the tablet sector with 94 percent of total activations for the fourth quarter of 2011 compared with only six percent for Android-based tablets. Apple’s iOS devices took the top five spot for activations from October 1 through December 31, 2011 with the iPhone 3GS being more popular than Samsung’s Galaxy SII.
The report also shows that the iPad and iPad 2 are the top sellers for “bring-your-own-device” (BYOD) users. According to Good, “While individual models like the Samsung Galaxy Tablet are driving some activations, overall Android tablets are not yet gaining traction with Good’s users.” The report noted that the iPad is the de facto enterprise tablet for industries such as Financial Services, Business and Professional Services, Life Sciences, and Healthcare.
Overall activations for Good Technology customers remained high for iOS devices all year. “In regard to total percentage of activations, the situation ended nearly where it began, with iOS devices holding roughly 70 percent of total activations and Android with around 30 percent.”
The upcoming year promises to be big for the iPad as well. According to a survey by Redshift Research, IT managers believe the tablet will become more popular in the next two years. The survey consisted of 1,500 IT managers and executives in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany and Spain.
Cisco Systems commissioned the survey, which showed that 21 percent of the workforce in the US and France requested a tablet and 38 percent of US senior executives are likely to be issued a tablet in the future.
