Major update for Final Cut Pro X released

Apple’s flagship pro video editing software, Final Cut Pro X, has undergone a major facelift. The 10.0.3 update brings with it true multi-cam functionality, advanced chroma keying and broadcast monitoring in beta form.

What does this all mean? To a video pro, these are functions that were majorly missed when Final Cut Pro X was announced in Summer last year. The software continues to become less controversial with each update and 10.0.3, which can be downloaded from the Mac App Store now, should be persuading plenty more Final Cut Pro 7 users to take up the new software.

Lending a helping hand in the transition is also the arrival of 7toX, a third party app that will take Final Cut Pro 7 xml and turn it into Final Cut Pro 10 compatible code. At £6.99 in the App Store, it allows you to finally migrate projects from old software to new.

The most major changes, from our brief play following the update, come in the form of multi-cam. Apple has applied all its usual design finesse to create a very simple way to paste together footage from different sources.

We don’t want to get bogged down in the complexities of the update, but don’t let the 10.0.3 update fool you. It feels much more like a 10.3 to us and really adds a lot more depth to the software.
