It’s a little known fact that in a different world to ours, wigs can jump around and have their own personality, or at least that’s what Figaro Wig HD would like us to believe.
It’s a quirky world indeed, having been ruled by the evil Figaro ‘The Barber’ who inadvertantly creates a wig that’s sentient. Fortunately, it’s nowhere near as creepy as it sounds with the player taking on the role of loveable Wig as he attempts to escape many barbershop traps.
This is all done through a mixture of platforming and physics based fun. Each stage requires Wig to collect up all the drops of hair dye before reaching the exit. Along the way are numerous hair based obstacles such as Hairdryers, Scissor-Copters and moving Fashion-Mobiles that prove a particularly fearsome threat. Across the 30 levels available, there’s a smooth learning curve to ensure that all the family can figure out what to do next.
Thanks to this, Figaro Wig HD is pretty simple to play. Finger swipes help line up shots and Wig happily bounces around in an accurate manner throughout. It’s a very light hearted affair right down to the ability to customize Wig with unlockable costumes. Replayability comes in the form of trying to hit increasingly improved high scores, with the player ranked according to how many jumps it took to complete a stage and how long it took.
For this reason, Figaro Wig HD will test players, especially in later stages, but in a way that means it gradually builds up and keeps the player interested. I had a lot of fun with it and it’s the ideal game to play a level every now and then, or in extended sessions. At such a low price, it’s an ideal purchase for platforming fans. I am hopeful that future updates might add to the levels on offer however. That would be the icing on the cake.
