FanTastic Top Artists Review
Do you like this story?
A comprehensive compendium of current music knowledge.
It’s not admittedly the most attractive of apps to look at, with the opening screen simply offering options between Top 100 artists or Top 100 tags surrounded by a grey exterior. Fortunately, a tap on the list of artists reveals so much more.
Updated weekly via the power of Last.fm, FanTastic Top Artists stays consistently fresh and interesting. At the time of writing, Coldplay was top of the list presuambly due to the recent release of their new album. A tap on any artist’s name unveils a set of new features. Users can browse albums and their tracks, listen to previews of each track, download via iTunes or watch YouTube videos of the tracks. A biography and pictures section gives some interesting background to each artist, along with the option to see what’s being said about them via Twitter.
Perhaps most useful is that of the concert section which displays any concerts lined up for the artist, plus locations and price details. There’s also a similar artists section for those in need of inspiration.
All this information is included for each artist covering pretty much every performer worthy of note. The Top 100 tags section further adds to the potential to learn about new artists and makes for a great place to simply browse.
I’d be willing to pay a small fee for FanTastic Top Artists (and users can if they want to escape the ads littered around the app), so for free it’s an utter bargain. It’s the little things like not having to wait for YouTube to open separately to watch videos that make this a cut above the rest. The ideal companion for music fans
