iStoryTime Launches Puss In Boots Movie Storybook – iPad App Review

Puss In Boots is on a mission to find the Golden Goose and he’s bringing along Humpty Dumpty and Kitty Softpaws! Join Puss in Boots as he makes the transition smoothly from faithful sidekick to leading feline in this entertaining adventure.
This iStoryTime book features real images, character audio and video from the Puss in Boots motion picture that was recently released. This makes the content very recognizable but also of a higher quality than you might be used to in a storybook app.

The story itself is very easy to follow and features the option to read if to yourself or have it narrated. One thing I did enjoy is the ‘Auto Play’ feature which will actually read through the story and automatically move between pages as well. This is nice when there is very little interactive content, because you do not have to tap your child to remind them to turn the page in order to proceed!
The few interactive features that were included give your child the opportunity to participate in animations that look every bit as good as the graphics in the movie.

What I liked: This app is geared more toward children in the awkward middle age groups –too old for toddler books but too young for chapter books. The story is long enough and sophisticated enough that those children in the 6-9 age range will not become easily bored and disinterested.

What I didn’t like: There are very few interactive features in this app. I wish there were more ways children could work within the app to make it less of a visual-only experience.

To buy or not to buy: If you have a child who can’t resist the charm of Puss in Boots, this is a lovely app and makes a nice companion to those who loved the movie.
