iPad 3 Curved Glass Rumors

There’s a rumor floating around that the iPad 3 may be getting curved glass to cover its anticipated refreshed display. Some devices already jumped onto the curved glass trend like the Google Nexus S which is attributed to Apple’s corrupted business relationship partner – Samsung.
You may also recall that the fifth generation iPod nano also sports a curved glass screen as well. But, does this make sense for the iPad 3? The main idea behind the curved glass on smartphone’s is to allow for better call comfort with the phone against your face.
With the iPhone 5 coming up and no rumors or talk about a curved glass screen for it, Digitimes backed the silence up by citing sources in the glass industry for their comments that the screens wouldn’t be available until Q1 2012.

Competitors are attempting to gain a competitive edge by introducing the curved glass in their gadgets. “Apple has reportedly also bought glass polishing equipment for its suppliers in preparation for the production of devices fitted with curved cover glass.”
That leaves the door open and current rumors/discussion about the iPad 3. Personally, I don’t think we will see it until the iPhone 6; if at all.
The major glass suppliers listed were Lens Technology, Fuji Crystal (iPhone screens) and G-Tech being responsible for the iPad screens. Also noted was that the sources believed curved cover glass may be something that is short-lived, or a trend that might die off.
