I was thoroughly impressed with FX Photo Studio when I reviewed it for the iPhone earlier this year. So impressed that I still use it frequently when out and about. Now, with the latest update for FX Photo Studio HD, there’s an ideal reason to purchase the app for the iPad.

Working much like the iPhone version, FX Photo Studio HD offers a comprehensive 194 photo effects and filters in all. They’re an impressive bunch covering a wide range of purposes. Users can add a burnt paper look to their images, brush stroke effects, pencil outlines, mirror distortions, even a rather freaky looking symmetry effect that can create two heads when dealing with photos of animals or people. A 3D effect is even possible working alongside red/blue glasses.
It doesn’t end there though with the most powerful feature within the app yet to be mentioned: the masking feature. Much like with image editing desktop applications, users can control how an image looks thanks to the power of masking and color splashing. This means that the effects only need be applied to part of an image rather than the entire photo, thus creating an unique effect only limited by the user’s imagination.
Thanks to the extra screen space of the iPad, FX Photo Studio HD feels less cluttered than the iPhone version. It’s also faster to switch effects making it all the more tempting to spend ages adjusting things. Each option is clearly defined with a plethora of sliders making things in-depth yet simple to conduct.
Sharing options are there with the ability to import images from Facebook and also share to Instagram, Flickr, Twitter and Tumblr easily.
FX Photo Studio HD covers all the bases for what anyone could want from an image editing app and it’s stronger for it. Currently priced at $1.99 it’s a bargain but even when the price goes back up, it’ll still be an essential purchase for those wanting to edit images on their iPad.
