Earthlapse Review
Do you like this story?
Earthlapse lets users view eight time lapse scenes from the International Space Station.
Earthlapse is equipped with eight interactive scenes that are all photographed by astronauts. All the images have a top-down perspective so users feel like they are in space looking down at Earth. With the touch of a finger, users are able to move the screen and interact with the images by controlling the speed. The speed can also be controlled via the Settings menu which allows for a slow, normal or fast speed.
The various options and settings are what make Earthlapse so attractive to iOS users. Not only can users control the speed, but they can also use their device as a desk or nightstand accessory thanks to the ability to display the weather and time. It even includes space soundtracks for those who wish to sit back and relax.
While the app works on all devices, it looks best on the larger iPad screen. Those who wish to see larger images have the option of viewing them through an external display or via Airplay. However, there are only eight images to view which means the scenery may get boring on the larger screen after awhile. Adding more images would give users more bang for their buck. Although I wouldn’t be opposed to an IAP scenery pack either.
Some users have reported a jerky or choppy playback, which seems to be isolated to the new iPad. I didn’t experience any issue with the playback on the iPad 2. The developer’s website states that there are no known issues at this time, but this may be due to users not reporting them.
From the aurora borealis to the the lighted dark skies, Earthlapse provides breath-taking space images that everyone can enjoy. For less than one dollar, this app is a steal and shouldn’t be passed up in the App Store. Enjoy the relaxing scenery today, and may the force be with you.
