Your Next Apple Device Could Be Made in Brazil, Not China

Apple has been getting a lot of heat for relying so heavily on Chinese manufacturers to make its products. Some people have an issue with labor conditions and wages in China, as well as the unusual number of suicides among Chinese factory workers. It will be interesting to see if these same people will have a problem with the Foxconn's five new factories being built in Brazil specifically for Apple products. Check out the details after the break.

                                                              According to Apple Insider:
Apple product assembler Foxconn plans to build five additional factories in Brazil to help cater to demand iPads and other tablets, which are expected to combine for an annual run rate of nearly 400 million units within five years.
The news was released publicly by São Paulo's Secretary of Planning and Development of the State, Julio Semeghini. He said the five factories, which are in addition to the one already believed to be turning out iPads and iPhones, will each staff roughly 1000 workers.
I'm not sure what working conditions and labor practices are like in Brazil, but at the very least I expect Foxconn's Brazilian factories to generate less pollution than their Chinese counterparts. Brazil is the world's largest producer of ethanol; a lot of machines, transport vehicles, etc. in Brazil use clean-burning and sustainable fuel made from sugarcane. Compare that to China, which is by far the largest polluter in the world.
Secondly, in my head half the Foxconn employees in Brazil are mutants like Blanka from Street Fighter. They have a edge over mere humans, since they can supply their own electricity...and imbue iPads, iPhones, and MacBooks with mystical qualities. But perhaps that's just me thinking that....
