Qooq, the French cooking tablet, is coming to UK later this year
Do you like this story?
The dual-core tablet runs on Linux as its operating system, but its software was designed entirely in-house. Its purpose is to provide access to 3,500 recipes from 100 different chefs, with 1,200 of those presented as videos, but can also be used to access the internet, webmail and social networks. It can play MP3s or MP4 video files, has a weather application, a timer and web radio functionality. There is also a digital photo frame option.
Specifications include a 10.1-inch 16:9 mineral glass touchscreen, 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 dual-core processor, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, an Ethernet port for wired internet, USB 2.0, SD/SDHC card reader, and 8GB of inbuilt memory.
The shell features a splash proof surface, waterproof buttons and Zamac feet with non-slip blocks.
Pocket-lint has spoken to Qooq, who tells us that the UK price is yet to be decided. Its price in France is 349 Euros (£289) for the tablet itself, but to access the multitudes of foody content, you will also need a subscription. It comes with 500 interactive recipes for free, plus a range of culinary services, such as automated shopping lists and community tips, but to get full access you will need to purchase a Qooq Pass.
A Qooq Pass costs either 1.99 Euros a day, 9.99 Euros a month or 99 Euros for a whole year's subscription. They each allow you unlimited access to all of the company's content.
The Qooq tablet will be available in cream, black or red.
