Noodle Words for iPad Gives Wordplay New Meaning – iPad App Review

Noodle Words – Active Word Game Set 1 for iPad creates a new way for kids to interact with words. Described as an “animated word toy,” Noodle Words encourages kids to engage with the words through sight, sound, and the help of Stretch and Squish, two adorable bugs, to improve a child’s comprehension.

The app includes a set of 18 words that are ready for action. All the child has to do is tap or drag a word and its animation helps reinforce its meaning. For example, the word stretch actually stretches like a rubber band when the user gives it a tap.
Animating the words helps give the words context and reinforce the word’s meaning without ever making the child feel as if they are “doing work.”

Because each word is paired with a series of relevant animations, and each word can also be repeated as many times as the child likes, it’s logical to conclude that children will remember the words in the app better than they might if they encountered them through flash cards or on a word wall at school

What I liked: Noodle Words is easy to use, and definitely colorful and cute. The app’s design and narration are very professional and well-executed.
What I didn’t like: Noodle Words needs more words to reach its potential. This app is billed as “set 1,” which implies that more sets are coming in the future. It would be great to see the new words arrive as an update for app owners that did not require an additional purchase.
To buy or not to buy: Because of the small number of words included in this first set, there is a limited window of usefulness for Noodle Words. However, if a parent buys Noodle Words at the moment when their child is neither too young or too old for the app, it will likely prove to be very useful.
