In my experience, every child adores dinosaurs at some point in their life. It’s the wonder of these absolutely huge creatures that seem so mystical yet are proven to have existed on this planet long before human beings. I was similarly interested as a child and remain so. This interest makes it easy to recommend Inside the World of Dinosaurs to anyone looking for an educational interactive book about the subject.
A relatively expensive app for the App Store, Inside the World of Dinosaurs comes bundled with plenty of reason to give it a look. 310 fully interactive 3D models are bound to enthrall young and old alike. They’reimpressive to look at and truly bring to life the fearsome creatures. Alongside that are 60 photo-realistic dinosaur images that use the latest technology and information previously gathered about dinosaurs to determine how they would have looked. In the case of the models, they can be spun around to be viewed from any angle with the walk cycles of some dinosaurs viewable in depth, also.
Such useful imagery wouldn’t matter if the text accompanying it was limited. Fortunately, that’s not the case. I had a very pleasant time reading through the 200 pages of the app, offering great insight into everything from the different periods such as the Triassic and Jurassic, as well as information on dinosaur hunters of the past. Everything is available in bite sized yet informative sections so it’s easy to dip in and read something entertaining, rather than being bogged down into huge swathes of text.
The real ace in the pack, however, is the inclusion of 5 hours worth of audio narration from ridiculously talented writer, actor and all round genius Stephen Fry. His gentle and warm yet intelligent English voice can’t help but instil a sense of class to the whole experience. Being able to just sit back and listen is a particularly useful touch.
Inside the World of Dinosaurs is a classy app that does a great job of sparking the imagination. Informative yet equally entertaining, it’s a great app for fans of dinosaurs and an ideal way to educate future fans.
