Pad gets ‘Tougher’ Android Competitor from Panasonic

There’s a brand new Android tablet on the market, coming to you from Panasonic. The Panasonic Toughpad is designed with enhanced data and device security plus enterprise-minded technology for government, healthcare, and commercial enterprises.
In addition to being ultra secure, the Toughpad is designed to be safe from environmental damage as well. It is water, dust, impact, and fire resistant, so it can be used in almost any environment and in any industry.
Panasonic has long had a line of environmentally resistant laptops – its Toughbooks, and now that same technology has been ported to tablet form, for an all-around secure tablet that the company is marketing towards businesses that need both data and hardware protection. The Toughpad is designed to last and operate for years beyond a traditional consumer device, and Panasonic already has a number of customers that use its Toughbooks.
The tablet features a 1.2 GHz dual core processor with embedded hardware security, a 10.1” multi-touch XGA LED with a 1024×768 resolution, 1GB of ram, micro-USB, and two cameras in both the front and the rear. With these specs, the tablet is competitive. By aiming at the enterprise market and existing customers, Panasonic will certainly find itself a niche in the tablet world.
The 10.1” Toughpad is known as the A1, and it is going to begin shipping in the spring of 2012. It’ll run you about $1299 for a base model. Panasonic is also working on a 7” version, known as the B1, which is due to be released in the fall of 2012.
