TurboTax Releases Multiple iPad and iPhone Apps for 2011
Do you like this story?
Although all of the TurboTax apps are free to download from the App Store, users will need to pay for the software they plan to use through in-app purchases, and decide prior to downloading which app is best for their filing needs.
The iPad app, TurboTax 2011 for iPad, is free standing, and users can count on spending a minimum of $29.99 for TurboTax Deluxe, but may choose TurboTax Premiere or TurboTax Home and Business for an additional cost if necessary. Notably, state tax preparation is available for an extra fee of $36.95.
The iPad app, has been improved since the 2010 version and now allows users to bring in information from a previous year’s return as well as importing income information from 400,000 employers, banks and other financial institutions.
The iPhone app, TurboTax Snap Tax, is new this year. It offers only one choice of federal and state forms bundled and available for purchase for $19.99 in-app. Snap Tax is for customers filing a simple return (1040EZ).
Users who purchase either the iPad app or SnapTax may receive free tax advice from TurboTax.
There is also another iPhone app, TurboTax Card Mobile, that is only for users who already own a copy of TurboTax, and are willing to get their federal refund in the form of a prepaid Visa from TurboTax. Rather than filing taxes, this app focuses on tracking a user’s refund, and on keeping tabs on the Visa card balance once it is received.
If those weren’t enough options, Intuit created two more free universal apps. Users who just want to estimate a refund can download Tax Caster by TurboTax. Once you’ve filed and (lucky) you are expecting a refund, then you may use MyTaxRefund by TurboTax to track the status of a Federal or State tax refund.
Also new this tax year: all TurboTax versions, even the free one, can be accessed through mobile browsers on the iPhone or iPad. Now all we iOS users need to to is figure out which of these apps will help us all get our taxes filed on (or before) April 15.
