Time Warner Moves Beyond iPad – Launches Mobile TV for iPhone

Time Warner has updated its TWC TV app, bringing streaming television to the iPhone in addition to the iPad. With the new TWC TV for iPhone, customers are able to watch live television on their phones and tablets, from anywhere in the house.
In addition, the app also allows Time Warner customers to change channels on their set-top box, manage DVR programming, and view channel listings in an interactive program guide that provides 7 days of show information.
Of course, Time Warner’s streaming television is still limited to your home WiFi network, meaning you can’t watch TV anywhere else. I’m not sure how many of you out there are going to watch TV on your tiny 3.5-inch phone screen instead of accessing a regular television, but if you do, the app works in the same way as the iPad app.
There are channel listings on the left side of the screen, from Animal Planet and Disney to E!, FX, and SyFy. The app is lag free, with crisp graphics and an easy to use interface.
Unfortunately, as with the iPad app, it is still of limited use in a lot of areas. For example, in Southern California, there are licensing agreements that prevent the app from interacting with the television’s guide, so the app can’t control channel changing or fully access the DVR, severely limiting its functionality.
However, if you’re lucky enough to have the right cable box and live in an area with no licensing restrictions, this is a great app to download to control your TV and DVR, even if you’re not using it to watch television.
Time Warner’s streaming television app for both the iPad and the iPhone is available for free to Time Warner subscribers, and can be downloaded in the App Store.
