Pad 3 Rumors: Apple to Announce the Next Generation iPad at February Event

Japanese-based news blog Macotakara (translated with Google Chrome) recently reported that Apple is planning an event in February to announce the release of the iPad 3. Although the rumor still has the release of the tablet for March, sources are telling Macotakara that the event will be held in February.

There has been enough media claiming that the third generation iPad will come out in March that it is nearly a fact.

In 2011, the iPad 2 showed up on the doorstep of the lucky few on March 11, so the timeline makes sense. Last year, however, Apple held its event to announce the release of their tablet about a week earlier, on March 2. Depending on what Macotakara’s sources mean by “February,” it could be a long wait. If the event will take place on February 29 (there is a Leap Year this year) and the iPad 3 comes out on March 9, then it will work out to about the same. However, if the announcement happens only two weeks from now, at the beginning of February, there will be a lot of hair being pulled out in anticipation.

Macotakara has had a half-and-half track record for Apple rumors. They correctly reported the March release of the iPad 2 and the fact that the iPhone 4S would not ship until late in the year. However, they also reported that the MacBook Air would have high-speed flash memory and that the iPhone 4S would have an aluminum back. So, there is a 50/50 chance that the news blog is correct.
