iPad 3 Might Not Use Sharp Displays After All
Do you like this story?
According to industry insiders that spoke to Korea’s Electronic Times Internet News, Apple has decided not to use Sharp displays after all. Apparently, the displays did not meet Apple’s standards, rendering them unusable.
Instead, the displays for the iPad 3 will be made by Samsung and LG. The panels will still be high resolution, measuring in at 2048 x 1536, which is double the resolution of the current iPad screen.
Apple was considering investing a billion dollars in a Sharp display plant, and it’s unknown if the rejection of its iPad 3 displays will have an impact on that deal. Sharp does still manufacture panels for the Apple iPhone, and will continue to do so for the sixth-generation iPhone that is due to be released later this year.
In the past, problems with screen quality have led to delays in iPad production, causing supply shortages. It is still early in the manufacturing process, so it is unclear if the switch from Sharp will impact iPad 3 availability.
