Go on an Adventure with Flori in this Interactive Children’s Book

Back in September, we reviewed Flori’s Birthday, an interactive children’s book about a sweet little giraffe and her gang of charming friends. While we loved the graphics and the fun activities, we thought the narration could use some improvement.
Flori is back in a second app, called Flori’s Adventure, which features the same great graphics, plenty of new interactions, and an all new narrator, making this a fun and engaging children’s activity book.
Once again, we find Flori sitting in her kitchen having chocolate muesli for breakfast, when the phone rings. It’s her monkey friend Tino, but she can’t find her phone! The first activity is finding the phone, and then picking it up to answer. From there, children will help Flori get dressed and help her friend build something fun.
Every page has an activity, and kids will guide Flori through the story by tapping on the screen to direct her. Flori needs to find objects, and kids will help her by exploring and tapping on rocks, bushes, and piles of leaves. Flori is a slow walker, but tapping twice on the screen will speed her up. There are rare flowers to find and add to the Flori-album, and points to collect by picking up white flowers. It will take some time to find all of the objects, so if you’ve got an impatient child, this app may not be the best decision.
Unfortunately, on some pages, picking up flowers is the only available activity and a lot of objects that look interactive (swings, buckets, beehives, etc.) are not, which was disappointing. Luckily, I do think that the whimsical graphics make up for the lack of interaction and narration in some parts.
Flori will interact with all of her animal friends as she searches for objects, and the story/game ends with a fun go-kart race. This app will have kids enthralled for quite some time as they search for all of the tools, and the ending game is quite entertaining.

What I liked: There were a lot of interactive activities in this new adventure, and it was fun to play along and help Flori progress through the story.

What I didn’t like: After Flori got dressed and stepped outside, it wasn’t clear where she should go, and I wasn’t shown how to follow the path of dandelions. This would be confusing to a young child, so an added line of instruction wouldn’t hurt. I still think that the narration can be improved, pacing wise, because it goes so fast that it’s hard to understand at times.

To buy or not to buy: This is a fun story and game that children will have fun exploring. Despite its flaws, $1.99 is a reasonable price for this app.
