Apple Appoints John Browett as Senior VP of Retail

Yesterday Apple appointed John Browett as Senior Vice President of Retail. Browett, who joins Apple after serving as CEO for Europe’s specialty electrical retailer Dixon’s Retail since 2007, will report directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook. In April 2012 Browett will take charge of Apple’s retail strategy and Apple retail store expansion worldwide.

“Our retail stores are all about customer service, and John shares that commitment like no one else we’ve met,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We are thrilled to have him join our team and bring his incredible retail experience to Apple.”

Browett fills the position which has been empty since Ron Jonson left Apple last November to become the CEO of J.C. Penney.

According to the New York Times, Browett’s tenure at Dixon’s Retail was marked by a large expansion of its European market. Forbes reports that Apple’s interest in expanding to China, where its current stores in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong are very popular, should mesh with Browett’s skill set.

Before joining Dixon’s Retail, Browett was CEO of Tesco.com. He holds a degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University and an MBA from Wharton Business School.
