Lantronix releases xPrintServer for iOS devices

As iPads become de rigeur in the workplace, IT departments are becoming accustomed to users frustrated cries of, “I can’t print?!”  The Lantronix xPrintServer hopes to change that.
The xPrintServer is a device about the size of a smart phone that promises to be a ‘plug-and-print’ solution for Apple iOS devices, whether the printers are wireless or networked.
Sure, iPads offer AirPrint, which sounds fantastic until you actually try to find an AirPrint compatible printer. Though the list of AirPrint compatible printers has grown, it’s still far too short to accommodate the bevy of makes and models that populate offices. The list of printers compatible with the xPrintServer is, in contrast, quite comprehensive.
Since the xPrintServer connects to an existing network via Ethernet, set up is simple and its use is designed with the workplace in mind. The device automatically discovers network printers which allows an iOS device to print directly to any printer on the network. According to Lantronix one xPrintServer to every 7 – 10 printers is ideal.
The xPrintServer is available for pre-order from the Lantronix store for $149.95.
