I’m what people would call “food oriented.” That makes me sound like a dog, considering it’s a term used to explain that a dog can be well trained via the allure of food, but it’s accurate for me. When I have a ton of work to do, I like to reward myself with some kind of food based treat. Fortunately for me, leading an active lifestyle balances this out. When I go out for dinner or cook a meal I’m particularly proud of, I take photos of the food I’ve eaten. This is where Evernote Food lends itself ideally to my lifestyle.
Evernote Food is an app that allows the user to keep track of the food and meals they’ve eaten. It’s very simply laid out to ensure that it’s quick and easy to add entries. Take a photo or import one from the Camera Roll then add relevant information about it. The location can be tagged to a meal, along with captions and tags to make an ever growing catalogue of food easy to look through. The information can then be shared via Twitter, Facebook or Email making it particularly useful for sharing recipe plans.
It’s quite a nice idea, especially when we’re coming up to Christmas which is always a big food feast. It’s not without its limitations though.
Listing anything specific such as ingredients or nutritional information must all be done manually which can take up a lot of time. I’d love to be able to sync the app with something like WordPress or Tumblr too. However, Evernote Food is an app more to do with taking snapshots of a meal and the memories related to that meal.
What is there is worth the free download. Keeping a journal of food has plenty of uses, whether it be to check how the diet is going at a glance or to revel in memories of meals gone by. A bit more functionality in the future wouldn’t go amiss though!
