Tablets for your TV

Tablets make a great TV companion. You can use them to check you e-mail during TV commercials, post your reactions to the game, or look up an actor on IMDb whom you just can't quite place.
Wouldn't it be great if you could use your tablet to actually control your TV? Well, you can.
We've rounded up our top tablets that can be used to navigate your TV using integrated IR technology or specialized apps.

The iPad 2 may not have the IR technology, but it has the apps and compatibility.

Apple iPad 2
No, the iPad doesn't include an IR blaster, but with a tablet this popular you can bet that the world will find a way to get it working with your TV. First, there are free apps out there for Tivo owners or Comcast Xfinity subscribers. Then there are the add-ons, like the Apple TV, which interact with the iPad using the built-in AirPlay technology. For its Tablet S, Sony cannibalized one of its high-end touch-screen universal remotes and used the same software to drive the IR blaster built into the side of this Android 3.2 tablet. The remote functionality is easy to set up, the graphic interface is beautiful, and the remote is compatible with a huge database of TVs, components, and audio receivers.
