Solve Tappie Puzzles with Your Child – iPad Game Review

Tappie PuzzlesTake a trip around the world with your child, solving puzzles along the way. Begin with each puzzle containing 6 pieces and when you have mastered those, flip the switch and enjoy harder 12-piece puzzles.
Puzzles are something almost every child is familiar with, giving your child the chance to play something fun that doesn’t have a huge learning curve. Combine this with static puzzles that first begin with an animation and you have a winning combination.

If your child tries to put a puzzle piece into the wrong spot, when they release their finger it will slide automatically back into the tray at the bottom of the screen. This allows for quick retries without the feeling of being reprimanded or failing.
As a nice touch, once a piece has been placed properly it can’t be moved. This is especially handy for toddlers and young children who are just learning how to interact with a touch screen and can often make unintended gestures.
The graphics in this app are quite fantastic. Detailed and colorful, each individual puzzle feels like artwork.

What I liked: For those of us who are a little old-school, these puzzle pieces will remind you of Tetris!
What I didn’t like: The game is 100% visual, which works nicely for small children, but it would help if the menu contained some guidance. The button that you tap to change between the number of puzzle pieces isn’t very intuitive and if you weren’t aware that was even an option, all you see is a small floating box with a 6 in it.
To buy or not to buy: These virtual puzzle games can be really enjoyable for small children. My three year old gains a lot of confidence from completing puzzles and that joy alone is worth the price of this app and more.
