RIM Slashes The Price Of PlayBook To The Same As Amazon’s Kindle Fire

A few months ago, PadGadget wrote about this holiday season’s tablet price wars. It looks like Research In Motion (RIM) has started the war off with a bang by offering the 16GB Blackberry Playbook for a mere $199. That’s $300 off the regular price.
Starting today, the massive discount is only available in Canada, RIM’s home, but next Friday, Staples will be offering the QNX-based tablet for the discounted price in the U.S. Others, presumably, will follow suite. Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Staples and Future Shop are Canadian participants in this bargain.
The 32GB and 64GB Playbook models will also be reduced by $300 each, making the 32GB only $299 and the 64GB only $399. This is a deal that is hard to pass up, even for die-hard Apple-philes.
If RIMs decision to slash the price of their tablet is any sign of the upcoming price war, then there is a fairly good chance that Yours Truly will be adding an Android-based tablet to her collection of gadgets before the end of this year.
