Newsweek App Coming to the iPad in January
Do you like this story?
At this point, there aren’t a lot of details to go on, but rest assured that the new iPad app will bring the same great content you’re used to in the print version, along with new interactive material such as videos and photos. Those of you with a print subscription will be able to access the iPad content for free, and those without a print subscription can purchase digital-only access.
According to Dirk Barnett, Creative Director, “Newsweek’s iPad app will enhance the strong design landscape of the magazine, building on the visual strength with interactives, video elements and an extension of the strong photojournalism that has been a hallmark of the magazine for decades.”
The app should bring some much needed attention to Newsweek, which has been experiencing some turbulence since Tina Brown took over as Editor-in-Chief last year when the magazine merged with The Daily Beast. Rife with disorganization, Newsweek saw several long time employees leave for greener pastures.
Under Brown’s management, Newsweek and The Daily Beast saw a loss of $30 million, along with an ad loss of 18 percent. With any luck, an iPad app will help turn things around for the magazine, which is in desperate need of fresh content and new readers. The app is part of a turnaround the company is enacting, which has thus far been mildly successful. Are you interested in a Newsweek app? Would you subscribe? Let us know in the comments.
