iPad 3 Release Date & A6 Processor News

According to our poll thus far, our readers would love the iPad 3 to have a USB port or two; with retina display and flash capabilities not too far behind. Don’t get your hopes up for flash inclusion because it has been repeated over and over that Jobs doesn’t really want to support it.
Those who were hoping to get their iPad 3 this year and still have the new A6 processor are probably out of luck too since it is set to launch in 2012. According to Taiwan Economic News, TSMC has started trial production on the A6 processor for Apple.

Hint at the iPad 3 Release Date?

Production on the A6 is set for the first quarter of 2012, while its unveiling won’t be seen until the second quarter of 2012; most likely tucked inside an iPad 3. The A6 processor is rumored to include quad-core processing power along with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Companies’ 28-nanometer process.
This news may be some indication towards the iPad 3 release date still being in 2012, despite repeated reports of another Apple tablet later this fall. If a new iPad does launch this fall it would not incorporate the new processor and would likely be some evolution of the iPad 2.

iPad 2 Plus & iPad 3

After all Steve Jobs named 2011 the year of the iPad 2 which means that an iPad 2 Plus could still technically fall under the iPad 2 wave for 2011. Is the iPad 2 still powerful enough to compete with the upcoming tablets this fall into the holiday season? Fans are expecting big things out of the iPad 3, and if that means waiting for 2012 to have our spec checklist complete, then I say; so be it!
