According to iOS 5 beta software, the iPad 3 will be running at a higher resolution as well as retina display. Retina display was first introduced on the iPhone 4 by Apple and runs at a pixel density of 326ppi. Native to Apple only thus far the retina display is a key selling point against other similar devices on the market because of its vivid rich display capabilities.

If you were following rumors for the iPad 2, then you probably remember how some were predicting Apple to include retina display in their latest tablet (the iPad 2) which has been on the market since March. As we have seen, that never happened and even more daunting was that it was still running at the 1024 x 768 resolution.

iPad 3 Display 5-6X Higher Than Current iPad 2

Earlier this week there was a report by Reuters claiming reliable sources had information that the iPad 3 would be boasting a screen with 5-6 times the resolution of the current iPad 2. Whether or not this information is reliable is to be seen, however it wouldn’t be a long shot according to the hints discovered in the iOS 5 developer beta software.
Screen resolution (retina display) is going to be a major distinguishing selling point as well as display richness in terms of quality for the average consumer. They tend to gravitate towards aesthetics, appeal and graphics before worrying about processor speeds and other technical specs that they have no clue about. Let’s hope that the iPad 3 will cater to both segments of consumers by bringing retina display and the tech specs to match. Can you say quad-core A6 please?

Further Evidence Suggesting 1536 x 2048 iPad 3 Resolution

Additional iPad 3 news shows that the Newstand App graphics are being shown in both 1024 x 768 and 1536 x 2048. According to the new twitter framework which was also discovered, their resolution has also been matched to that of the latter; further suggesting the inclusion of the boosted resolution.
While this could just be more beta testing behind the scenes it is very likely that Apple will be looking to introduce a high-res retina display screen for the iPad 3 at some point during the life cycle of iOS 5.
