Foursquare: Now With iPad-Friendly HTML5 Interface

email
Foursquare’s location-based social networking app has been a staple on my iPhone ever since it was first released. I check in almost everywhere I go, and relish unlocking different badges for my activities.
Recently, the company has added Yelp-like features that allow users to explore locations around them. The app makes recommendations based on places you like, places that are nearby, and places that your friends like. It’s turned into a must have app, and now there’s an iPad-friendly web interface too.
The Foursquare website has been completely redesigned to look a lot like the Foursquare app. The new HTML5 site features a location-based map at the top of the page that displays restaurants, shops, and other locales that are nearby. This makes it perfect to use to search for places to visit on the iPad.
Like the app, the site now gives recommendations based on the time of day, and if Radar is turned on, the site can deliver location-based alerts when a user is near a place that has been added to a to-do list. There are also new general updates to the place page, follow suggestions, comments, and profile pages, all of which serve to make the site far more user-friendly, especially on mobile devices.
Currently there is no checking in through the website, which is disappointing. Hopefully that’s a feature that will be added in the future, so that checking in will be available on the iPad without downloading the iPhone app. Want to check out the new site? Just head on over to Foursquare.com. Are you a Foursquare user? Let us know what you think of the redesign in the comments.
