Best Apps of 2011
Do you like this story?
GarageBand
- Price £2.99
- Released March 2011
In all seriousness however, it is a brilliant mobile editing tool and works as a great way to podcast straight from your iPad. It has also just made an appearance on the iPhone 4S, making portable editing even easier.
Sky Go
- Price Free (with subscription)
- Released July 2011
Video quality impressed, as did the smooth and slick functionality of the app. Better still, you could in theory use Sky Go as a sort of multi room setup all for the price of one subscription, as you could use it on iPad, iPhone and Mac or PC.
Onavo
- Price £2.99
- Released April 2011
Pictures might seem a little fuzzy and not everything will be as high res as you might hope, but the money saved is more than worth it. You can also leave the service on or stop it whenever you want, great for those who have a rather tight data package.
Contre Jour
There had to be a game in there and what better than the innovative Contre Jour? With rather special art direction and a unique gameplay style, it was one of our favourite gaming apps this year. We particularly liked the colour scheme, doing justice to the rather lovely Retina display on our iPhone 4s.
Ultimately it is a great pick up and play app, putting a bit of strain on the brain as you try and work out the route for the games's character Petit. Things don't ever get tough enough for you not to want to pick at another level, meaning you can easily dive in and out of the app.
RunKeeper
This year's Windows Phone entry comes in the form of RunKeeper. The app has being keeping the likes of Pocket-lint in relatively good shape for a while now. It works by measuring activity in virtually any form, be it running, swimming or cycling. You can use GPS or set things manually and it will keep track of how much exercise you have done, even keeping a total in your WP7 live tile.
A post run history is a good way of showcasing your finest moments as well as planning out future adventures. Good stuff for WP7 aficionados, particularly how slick the app looks, which contributes to the general good looks of the OS. Which is your favourite? Let us know in the comments below ...
