Apple Outpaces Disney as the World’s Most Valuable Brand

Bloomberg recently released Interbrand’s Best Global Brands 2011 report showing that Apple flew to within the top-ten most valuable brands in the world in 2011, up nine places from 2010. Being the eighth most valuable brand puts Apple above the likes of Hewlett-Packard, Samsung and Sony.
In fact, the electronics giant is valued higher than the world’s most beloved cartoon creator, Disney.
Apple’s value increased 58 percent in 2011, making it worth more than $33 billion, an increase of more than $10 billion year-over-year. While the numbers show that the iPad maker is surging in ranks, its biggest operating system competition, Microsoft, has stayed at the number three spot again. However, the Windows creator saw a three percent loss in value from 2010. Incidentally, Apple’s big jump is the largest increase in value over any in the report’s top 100 companies. All others in the top ten have remained stationary in their ranking year-over-year.
Samsung Electronics, Apple’s “Frienemy,” moved up two spots to take the 17th place, which is where Apple was in 2010. Hewlett-Packard managed to stay at number 10 again with a brand value of $28.5 billion in 2011. Sony Electronics saw a 13 percent drop in band value in 2011 pushing it down one spot to 35th place.
Coca-Cola ranked number one in this report with a value of nearly $72 billion. The soft drink giant has held the number one spot for 11 years in a row.
