iPad 3 specs and the 2009 patent
It’s no secret that after the thunderbolt port continues to grow in popularity that users of the iPad 3 are going to want this feature tucked into their tablets.Apple’s iPad fans have become increasingly outspoken about their request for a USB port at minimum amongst other specs like an SD card slot.
The Apple patent from 2009 reveals a hybrid USB 3.0/Display Port that has the web buzzing about its inclusion into the iPad 3 and the iPhone 5. The 30 pin connector would be compatible with thunderbolt and USB 3.0 connectivity.
A thunderbolt port would allow users to complete processes like backing up their devices (which currently takes forever); and put in it in overdrive with the speed of the upgraded port.
Evidence also shows that the height of the existing connector would be able to be reduced. We all know that Apple loves starting out with a design that can be cut slimmer and slimmer with each generation. It will be no different for the iPad 3.
Thunderbolt technology would allow Apple to greatly increase data read and write speeds, and also use it to boost the display of the device.
Razor Thin iPad 3
This could mean that the iPad 3 will be experiencing an ultra slim design if Apple is able to reduce the height of its required internals. The biggest problem with adding a USB port is the height and clearance the port needs in order to fit into Apple’s design. Fans would be in an uproar if a new generation was released thicker than the last.Prepare yourselves for Apple’s release of a razor thin iPad 3, which will be as close to what we see in the movies as possible! (with current technology of course)
