Apple confirms iOS 5 battery drain issues; launches fix the error

Apple has confirmed the some ‘bugs’ in the iOS 5 may be behind the short battery life of some iPhone 4S models. Within days after acknowledging the glitch, Apple rolled out the beta version of iOS 5.0.1 to fix the problem. There have been loads of complaints from a group of iPhone users that they were getting their iPhone batteries drained out quickly after the update to iOS 5. Initially, Apple did not respond to the complaints; but later acknowledged the bugs and ensured fix in a few days.
The Cupertino-based technology firm told to AllThingsD that some of its customers reported the complaints over the past weeks. “A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices,” Apple told the technology blog.
Apple then guaranteed a software update to address the bugs in a few days. It seems the bug has been there even in the testing period of iOS 5. But Apple did not pay enough attention to the warning of some developers on the issue. Many customers in Apple discussion forums also reported the complaint and sought for a solution.
“Did somebody notice a major power drain issue after iOS5 upgrade on iPhone4? Last night at midnight, it was ~90% charged. In the morning, it was 37% charged. By noon, it was dead. I didn’t make even 1 call during this time,” complaints a user named RakeshPDX.
iOS 5.0.1 update
In response to the glitch, Apple has unveiled the beta version of iOS 5.0.1. The new iOS 5 version, which is available only for developers now, is supposed to fix the problem. It will also fix problems with iCloud document syncing, voice recognition for Aussies and others. Whatever, the major focus will be in fixing the battery life draining issue, indeed. Apple used to roll out updates to its software to fix the reported problems.
There was a similarly serious bug with iPhone 4 last year. Soon after the official release in June 2010, some iPhone 4 models were reported to have the much-debated antennagate issue. It is a problem of dropping network signals while placing hands on a particular part of iPhone 4. Then also, Apple fixed the bug with a software update. It is indeed Apple’s tradition of surfacing updates to software in order to solve bugs.
The new iOS 5.0.1 will soon be available for iPhone users. The software update will be sent to the customers via over-the-air (OTA) mode by the carriers, Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel and AT&T in the U.S. Hopefully, along with other security and bug fixes, iOS 5.0.1 will completely repair the battery draining issue.
Apple officially launched iOS 5 on iPhone 4S, the latest version of its flagship smartphone iPhone on 14, October, 2011. The fresh version of iOS, which features more than 200 new features, is to change the way we have been using an iDevice. The software has realized several groundbreaking features like Siri voice recognition, iCloud cloud computing, AirPlay Mirroring, iMessage and Notification Center and so on. You can enjoy iOS 5 and its features on all iPhone models except the original iPhone and iPhone 3G. In addition, it will run on iPad original, iPad 2 and the recent versions of iPod touch.
Does it affect iPhone 4S sales?
The battery drain issue has never affected the sales of iPhone 4S, however. The new version of iPhone is being sold out like hotcakes on all carries especially on AT&T and Sprint. Record sales have made iPhone 4S again a huge success after iPhone 4, one of the world’s most sold-out consumer electronics products ever. The new iPhone 4S, thanks to iOS 5 and its ground-shattering features, is to keep up the tradition of iPhones in great sales and popularity.
