Social Sketchpad Sharing Site Doodle.ly Launches iPad App

Doodle.ly is a site that allows you to make sketches and doodles to share with both friends on Facebook and Twitter, and the other sketchers on the Doodle.ly website. Drawing with a mouse or trackpad, in my case, can be tedious, but now there’s a Doodle.ly iPad app that allows you to draw right on your iPad screen for sharing with the Doodle.ly community.
The iPad version has the tools from the original browser-based interface, plus all new pens and markers that will allow you to create detailed drawings and notes with just a finger or a stylus.
I gave this app a try, and I was impressed with the quality of the drawing tools. There’s a sharpie that comes in a range of colors, plus a few tapered markers, a pencil, a pen, a highlighter, and an eraser. They have variable tip widths, so you have a range of tools to create whatever your heart desires.
Your finished pictures can be posted to the site through your Facebook or Twitter accounts, and you can choose to share your pictures only on Doodle.ly, or also on your preferred social network so all of your friends can see your doodles.
The goal of Doodle.ly is to allow users to communicate through hand-drawn pictures as easily as we send tweets or status updates on other social networks.
“As social media continues to impact how we communicate with one another, we believe Doodle.ly can provide the solution for people to express themselves creatively all across the world,” said Evan Vogel, Doodle.ly creator.
This is a fun app, but I’d love to see even more enhanced drawing features like selectable brush size, a wider range of colors, and more advanced tools. It’d also be great to have enhanced social aspects, like a daily drawing prompt to motivate people to use the app and share their creations. Doodle.ly seems to be in the beginning stages, but it definitely has the potential to be another must-join social network.
Want to give Doodle.ly a try and join in with your own sketches? You can currently download the iPad app from the App Store for free.
