Rumor: Bell and Rogers Talking iTV with Apple?

Rogers and BCE, two big players in Canadian telecommunications, may be in talks to bring Apple iTV to Canadian viewers. While little solid evidence about Apple’s iTV exists, rumors about its launch date and content abound.
The Globe and Mail reports, “They’re not closed to doing it with one [company] or doing it with two,” said one source who is familiar with the talks. “They’re looking for a partner. They’re looking for someone with wireless and broadband capabilities.”
According to another source, who spoke under conditions of anonymity, Rogers and Bell (BCE) already have prototypes in their labs.
Apple, Rogers, and BCE were not available to comment on the story.
The assertion that Rogers and BCE already have a test version of iTV offers the strongest hint yet that iTV is a reality. Speculation that Apple might be uniting the large screen TV with the iPad tantalizes fans, but we will have to wait for to learn what iTV will really look like.
The iTV also has the attention of media executives who do not want their income streams dammed the way that the recording industry saw Apple divert revenue through iTunes.
Just how the iTV will work is uncertain, but one thing is clear: viewers want more control over the content they watch. The era of live TV is over. According to TiVo, only 38 percent of subscribers watch live TV. Of TiVo subscribers who also subscribe to Netflix and Hulu as well, only 27 percent watch live TV.
