NPR Music Updated for iPad, Shins Concert Planned

NPR’s latest update to NPR Music takes the “desk” out of Tiny Desk Concert. The app, which is still free, now runs natively on the iPad, as well as the iPhone and iPod touch.

NPR Music makes music discovery easier. The app encourages users to browse through a variety of genres, stream 100 of public radio stations across the US, and save content for offline listening. NPR plans to give users access to concerts and showcases as well. Fans can save favorites and create playlists to customize their listening experience.

The app unites all of NPR’s diverse musical offerings in one place. Its splash screen offers a range of timely articles, as well as portals that take the user straight to NPR First Listen, All Things Considered, Live Concerts, Song of the Day, World Cafe, KCRW Presents, and, of course, the Tiny Desk Concert.

Fans can also tab through a wider selection of articles, videos and programs, or explore music by genre. Users can get personalized recommendations based on what they already like, and what’s in their iTunes libraries. The app is AirPlay enabled and also supports Facebook and Twitter integration.

To celebrate, the Shins will perform a live webcast on March 7, at 10 pm ET. Fans will need NPR Music to tune in live to hear the newest tunes from the Shins. James Mercer secured a new lineup and a new label for his band who are promoting Point of Morrow, their fourth full-length.
