Mailmen is a stealth puzzle game where your goal is to deliver the mail, rain or shine, while avoiding and defeating dogs of all kinds, from chihuahuas and beagles to german shepherds.
The goal is to pick up and deliver mail and packages. Every level features several mailboxes that must be visited, but the neighborhood is populated with an abundance of dogs, who have a taste for mailman flesh.
Luckily, you’re given an arsenal of tools to distract the dogs, which have a line of sight that must be avoided. There are a total of three different mailmen, and each one uses a different special tactic.
One has a fire hydrant disguise and can lift boxes, one can climb trees and has a tennis ball that can be used as a distraction, and another has speed boots and rope that can be used to tie dogs up.
In each level, you will use some combination of the mailmen to pick up packages and mail. You will have to figure out the best way to use all of their special abilities in unison to distract all of the dogs, deliver the mail, and finish the stage. You can rotate the view to see every angle, which helps with the trickier aspects of the game.
The levels are clever and will require some thought and some practice to finish. I enjoyed all of the different abilities, which kept things interesting, but I did have some trouble placing boxes and utilizing the tennis ball effectively. Tapping in these instances was not always precise, which tended to be frustrating.
Graphically, the game is well done, and overall, I really enjoyed the stealth-based gameplay. There’s a lot of variation, between abilities and different types of dogs, which makes Mailmen a lot of fun to play.
What I liked: Having three different mailmen with unique abilities was a lot of fun, because I had to figure out how to use each one and in which order.
What I didn’t like: Tapping on tiny objects (mainly aiming tennis balls and boxes) was imprecise and a bit tedious. I also had a few crashes, mainly in level 3 where the tennis balls are first introduced, which caused me to have to restart the entire level several times.
To buy or not to buy: If you’re into stealth puzzlers, this is a great choice.
