Apple Worth more than the GDP of Malaysia

So we all know that Apple is worth a fortune, right? A fortune of $459.82 billion dollars, as of today. While we know that’s a lot of money, it can sometimes be hard to picture just how much $450 billion dollars really is, so here’s a little help.

In 2011, the entire country of Malaysia, had a GDP (gross domestic product) of $447 billion dollars. This means that Apple is more valuable than the total value of the goods that an entire country produces in the span of a year.

As one of the world’s largest exporters of semiconductors, electrical goods, and CIS products, Malaysia isn’t exactly a poor country. In fact, it’s ranked as 30th largest economy in the world out of 226 countries, which means Apple is worth more than the yearly output of 196 countries around the world, including Belgium, Sweden, Hong Kong, Greece, and Ireland.

With its market capitalization at nearly $460 billion, Apple not only outranks many countries, but also every other company in the world, including Microsoft and Googlecombined.

What else is Apple worth more than?

All of the gold in the federal reserve ($340 billion)
All the illegal drugs in the world ($321 billion)
Six times the retail value of all the beef consumed in the U.S each year ($74 billion)
2.5 Apollo Space Programs ($145-$170 billion)
Fourteen National Football Leagues ($33 billion)
Worldwide lottery sales ($240 billion)
The Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Stephen King, and Twilight Franchises combined (~$49 billion)
The three big drug companies – Novartis, Sanofi-Aventis, and Pfizer combined ($335 billion)

Wow. When put in these terms, it’s amazing how much Apple has grown since its inception in 1976 and almost-failure in 1993. I guess we really love our iPods, iPhones, iPads, and Macbooks!
