Report Shows iPad Significantly more Reliable than Android Tablets

FixYaThe FixMas Holiday Report release by FixYa, the leading product Q&A destination, offered insight into the most popular consumer electronics items of the 2011 holiday season including the reliability of devices offered by the leading competitors.
The good news for Apple is that the iPad enjoys 70% of the tablet market share while only receiving a fraction of the complaints expressed by consumers.
Leading the tablet pack with the most reported issues is the Coby Kyros, followed in second place by the Samsung Galaxy. Both tablets run Android, though the Coby device certainly falls into the lower-end discount spectrum and only features Android 2.1. The poor showing from Samsung is a little more surprising given their high-end price-tag and feature set.

Of particular interest are the types of complaints. Those consumers with iPad issues seemed focused on problems with connectivity and charging while those identified on the Android devices were much more serious and fundamental. Users of the Coby Kyros experienced difficulties with the screen and customer support while the primary concern with Samsung Galaxy users revolved around the app aesthetic and the screen freezing.
The other two tablets featured in the report, Amazon’s Kindle and Sony’s Reader Touch Edition also received considerable numbers of complaints because of their screens.
The results of FixYa’s study also found Apple’s iPhone in 5th place for the electronic device most complained about this season, just a touch ahead of the Samsung Star GT-S5233 which found itself in 6th place. Interestingly, the chief complaints for those disgruntled iPhone users revolved around the battery life and dropped calls –two issues Apple claims to be addressing in future iOS upgrades.
FixYa was created in 2005 by entrepreneur Yaniv Bensadon with a mandate to “build a community resource capable of providing relevant and up-to-date troubleshooting information, gathering consumer-generated practical product tips and sharing them in one user-friendly site.”
Did you activate an iPad or iPhone in the 2011 holiday season? Did you experience any issues?
