Panasonic Lumix DMC-S5: point and shoot 2012

Panasonic Lumix S5
It may not sound like the sexiest machine on Pocket-lint's pages but, if the price is right, the Panasonic Lumix S5 camera makes for a very tidy point and press package.
With curved edges and a choice of three colours, the S5 is as much about looks as it is function but that's not to say that there isn't much that you can do with it. You get a 28-112mm effective zoom range which takes you from a basic wide angle up to 4x magnification and, with a 16-megapixel sensor at the helm and the company's Mega OIS stabilisation system, you should be able to get fairly good snaps even in low light.
It's also been designed really for the non-enthusiast photographer, so there's some helpful bits and pieces such as an Auto Retouch function as well as a panoramic mode.
At the same time, there's been only a touch of scrimping on the video front with 720p recording in 16:9 aspect. No official price just yet but we'd like to think we're talking just the two digits here. We'll find out in February.
