Grocery List Generator Review

Grocery List Generator Review icon

Universal App

Grocery List Generator could potentially change the way people set about doing their food shopping by creating a list based on recipes.

  • Developer: Martijn Kooij
  • Price: $0.99
  • Version Reviewed: 1.2
  • Device Reviewed On: iPhone 4S & iPad 2
Nobody likes going grocery shopping, and I am no different. That’s why when there is a chance of adding a slight technological bent to proceedings then my attention is piqued, and things begin to get interesting. That’s why I jumped at the chance of giving Grocery List Generator the 148apps treatment.
Where Grocery List Generator differs from many grocery list apps is in its execution. Instead of simply offering a glorified list of items which need to be bought, this app actually self-populates the list based on the meals that the user has decided to cook. Tell the app that chicken curry is on the menu and it will fill the shopping list accordingly. It’s magic.
Now obviously the potential downside here is that the recipe chosen by the potential chef needs to be in the Grocery List Generator library. If it isn’t then it’s a situation easily remedied with the ability to add new recipes, along with instructions, being at the heart of the app itself.
Once created, recipes can then be shared using either email or Twitter, too.
Once a shopping list has been generated then users will be happy to find the app has also worked out which isle they should be heading down, and even this can be customised to fit the supermarket in question. Once a shopper has set Grocery List Generator up to reflect their particular store, the app does the rest.
Non-food items can also be added to a shopping list manually, so there is no excuse for forgetting to stock up on life’s little essentials while planning that gourmet meal.
I found the sharing of recipes to be particularly pleasing, with the app even able to import said recipes from the internet. This is great if someone is a foodie and knows other people in their social sphere also use the app.
Grocery List Generator is available to download from the App Store right now for less than a dollar, and comes recommended for anyone that, like me, needs a little nudge when it comes to grocery shopping.
